Billy Mays Passes Away

billymays2We are So Sorry to  Inform the World that Billy Mays, Star of the TV Show Pitchman, as well as the Best TV Pitchman, has passed away in his sleep this morning.

Coincidentally, Billy Mays was in a plane accident yesterday.

More news to come. Please share your comments with the world. Let us know how Billy has affected your life. We all remember watching billy late night yelling and hawking those great products.

Billy is famously known for Yelling in his pitches to get his point across. I personally remember watching him in the OXYclean commercials, and actually believing that I need it. Not sure if i did at the time, but i sure believed that I did. Yes, I was one of the ones that ordered it.

I know that Billy had a son, because I actually followed him on Twitter. Sad to see what he is going through right now. Young Billy – we are supporting you!!

Update: Young Billy (Billy Mays son) Has been updating his twitter account all day. You can follow him here

  1. Rick says:

When I heard that Billy Mays had died I thought my mom was playin’ a joke, but then I realized that it was true. I was very upset when I found out that Billy Mays died, he was my favorite infomercial pitchman. Billy Mays was truly a pioneer for all sorts of media. His famous quote “Hi Billy Mays here for Oxi Clean!” will ring in my head for years to come, but will be a happy thought whenever it comes to mind. Rest peacefully Billy, I hope one day I’ll see you doing another commercial for Oxi Clean in heaven! Hey someone’s gonna have to sell it to us to keep our robes white!

  2. John G. says:

We were saddned to hear of Billys passing and hope his family finds the stregnth to endure this most difficult time.
Billy burst into our homes every day bringing us products that served to both make our lives easier and bring fortune to the inventors whose dreams he helped realize.
He was more than a “pitchman”, he was a figure of the American dream realized. We’ll miss you Billy. God Bless.

  3. Kevin says:

Well, Its been 5 days since Billys death and I’m still shock and saddened
about his sudden passing. He seem to be a great guy, He is missed by
MANY,what a great legacy to have, I hope his family and personal
friends take comfort in knowing how much he was really loved and
    respected.
    Billy will always be remenbered

    GOD BLESS YOU
    BILLY MAYS

  4. Billy Fan says:

“It’s true that Mays was an inspiration to most new entrepreneurs out there at one point or another. In fact, he was the perfect embodiment of the American dream, from his humble beginnings on the Atlantic City Boardwalk to becoming a national icon with his own television show. He was our daily reminder that the only thing standing in the way of liberating ourselves from the 9-5 jobs we hate so much was a simple way to solve a problem coupled with a good sales pitch. While Billy Mays has passed, he lives on in the imaginations of millions of Americans whenever they ask themselves that famous question: ‘Why didn’t I think of that?’”

  5. Cathy says:

I am only a fan, never having had the pleasure of meeting Billy Mays, but I know I would have liked him as a person. His natural good nature came through like the suns rays and he will be greatly missed by his Tampa Bay fans and his fans around the country. May God be with his wife and children. May his young daughter know how loved her dad was. Rest in Peace Billy Mays.

  6. Chris Preston says:

I was totally shocked when I heard the news of Billy’s death!!He was a very good pitchman to say the least but he also was a great family man. GOD speed and GOD bless all who loved Billy!

  7. Clifford says:

I’m lost for words. I just got to really know the real Billy Mays by watching his show on Discovery. He will be missed dearly. To the man with the blue shirt.

  8. Liz says:

How sad and shocking that Billy Mays is gone! My husband and I are big fans of “Pitchmen,” and had looked forward to watching it for years to come. I can’t imagine how sad his family and friends must be.

Surely Billy Mays is off pitching to the angels. Bless his soul and may he rest in peace.

  9. B. Blevins says:

My brother and I were just discussing this new Billy Mays show a few days ago. My brother was an avid fan and was totally into the show. I had never paid much attention to the show, but there is NO WAY you could ignore a commercial when Billy Mays was the pitchman. Always cheerful and loud, but always ON.

What a tragic week of deaths for celebrity this last week has been. It seems that there must be some connection to this death and the rough plane landing, even though the medical examiner’s PRELIMINARY reports do not indicate that there is.

Rest in Peace, Billy Mays. My the Lord God comfort your family, friends, and fans!

  11. Scott Mcclure says:

The news hit me like a ton of bricks. I have always been so amazed by his charisma, sense of humor, honesty and sense of humor. I remember Oxyclean ads, especially. He talked me into buying my first tub of that awesome product.

It feels that I really got to know him and Sully, sicne the start of “Pitch Men” on the new show they have. Just seeing him and his family on the insurance infomercial episode shows me what kind of man he truly is. His love for his family shows. You could see the glow when he would hold his daughter.

This really hits home with me, as I lost my father when I was 14. i miss him so much sometimes. I know he is in a better place. No wars, hate, lies or pain!

I hope the discovery networks do some sort of documetory on his life and freinds. He deserves for everyone to see him for the real husband and father that he truly was.

I have been a paramedic for the past 20 years adn have seen this sort of thing before. if I had to guess, he was killed by a subdural bleed, caused by the object that hit him on the head. I have seen people have no visible wounds, not even a knot on the head and die form a bleed in the brain form an object hitting them. The thing about it is, it is a slw process with that type of injury. It can take hours before any signs show up. My second guess would be a pulmonary embolus from the plane flight, however that is not probable.

GOD BLESS ALL OF BILLY’S FAMILY, FREINDS, AND FANS AROUND THE WORLD. YOU WILL BE MISSED BILLY!

  12. Galen says:

My sympathy to the Mays family.
God obviously needed a pitchman for His Heavenly Rewards and Billy Mays is the one to do it. Because of Billy, I purchased a product that I normally would not have and I am completely satisfied!

  13. Brian says:

So shocked to hear of the lost of Billy Mays. You could tell he truly enjoyed beibg a pitcman. My thoughts and prayers go to the Mays family.
    We will miss you Billy.

  14. Natalie says:

My deepest sympathies to you and your family. Your father was an awsome man. I knew of him from an infomercial company I use to work for named HSN Direct/Reliant. I use to work for Tim Harrington and Kevin Harrington. I also worked with and knew personally Anthony (Sully) Sullivan. That was a long time ago. I never heard anything other than positive about your father. May Billy rest with the Angels.

  15. John says:

I am deeply saddened by the loss of Billy, and my family and I extend our heartfelt sympathy to his family. He was one TV personality that I never got tired of hearing, and watching him and Sully on the TV show Pitchmen was always enjoyable. Yes, God needed another Angel, as sad as it makes us to lose such a great, down to earth guy. Godspeed, buddy!

  16. Atlanta SEO says:

I have always loved Billy and recently got into the Pitchmen series. Billys boot-strapping life story, his determination and obvious warmth and love for those around him add up a real loss for the world of direct response advertising.

He will be missed. I just cannot believe he is gone at such a young age!

  17. Lisa Fleury says:

I “discovered” Pitchman while channel surfing. The show gives substance to the American dream of Entrepreneurship. It’s what they don’t teach you in Business School. Billy was a master of his craft. He will be missed. My condolences to the Mays family. Signed, MBA

  18. brenda conner says:

My son Coty always teased me about Billy Mays when his commercials would come on TV. I would tell him to turn it down because of his yelling all the time, so of course my son started turning the TV up as loud as he could to make sure I heard him every time he was on. Just yesterday morning he did that to me. I’m really in disbelief right now. So many people this past week passing away. My heart goes out to all the families that have lost loved ones. My deepest sympathy to the Mays family. I just lost my dad a 1 1/2 years ago and I still have had a bad time with it. My father was my best friend, buddy, pal and the best dad ever. I dont think life is ever the same once you loose a parent. He is in my prayers and thoughts every day. Just stay focused on family and make sure you always tell the people closest to you how much you love them every day. May God bless you Billy and R.I.P. You will be missed and my son was really upset when I told him this morning.

  19. Stephanie says:

So sorry to hear of the passing of Billy Mays. I sat yesterday watching some of his work on TV. Hard to believe that another TV friend has passed. My thoughts and prayers to his friends and family

  20. Keith Barmore says:

My deepest sympathy to the mays family . I myself am a pitchman and have worked the boardwalks , fairs, & conventions . Billy has been a true inspiration to me for many years that if i work hard enough my dreams will come true as his did. I have had the pleasure of meeting Billy in person . He was the nicest guy in the world, & did not give me the impression that he was better than the next man . I could tell he truely loves what he does as much as i do . Thanks Billy ! You will be greatly missed !

  21. Russ says:

My sympathy goes to his family for their loss, I have never been a fan of his infomercials I really hated being woke up with HI BILLY MAYS HERE FOR WHATEVER HE WAS PITCHING AT THE TIME. i never bought anything he pitchedbecause of the over exagerated demos like pretending to put all his weight on some kind of push in and hang gizmo or the awesome augert breaking up “hard soil” when you could see that is was broke up before the auger went to work. But he did make a lot of people wealthy in the process..RIP BILLY MAYS

  22. Missi says:

So shocked and sad to hear about Billy’s death. My husband and I loved his show. Our prayers are with his family and loved ones. You will be missed!

  23. jeremydazzo2004 says:

Billy mays may you rest in peace ill miss you , who else is gonna sell us oxy clean at 3 in the morning you will be missed. May god be with your family.

  24. Kevin says:

I think he was a good guy but I never bought a good product from him. They were all junk. I didn’t like that he yelled at me either. Did he color his hair? I liked him and he was a funny guy. May he rest in peace, and my condolences to his family.

  25. Roger says:

Billy was my best friends cousin. I have been with him on several occasions and we have spoken several times over the years. He was just like you see him on TV, larger than life. He was Sooooo nice in person and never had a bad word to say. He was also a very positve person. I am lucky for having known him.

Our prayes are with his family. Billy left behind a wife, son and daughter so PLEASE pray for them.

    God Bless.

    Roger

  26. Michele says:

Sad so very sad. He was such a fascinating man.

  27. MIKE RUCINSKI says:

What I liked about Billy is I knew he believed in every product he pitched. I told several people this — if Billy says it’s good, it is!

As a professional sales rep, I was, am and will always be inspired by the way he pitched product – he was the best!

My 2 /12 year old will miss his commercials on Sprout. He was infectious even to her!

  28. Sean says:

Like everyone else, I didn’t get a bad vibe from the guy. I’ve noticed the weather patterns and death patterns have changed. Hopefully, we can have as good a run and be as well liked as this guy before we die. I was disappointed since I trusted and liked this guy so much that, for once, I was willing to walk into his office and share my idea for a product without asking them for a non-disclosure and non-compete clause. Thats the vibe a got from the guy. In seeking my peace of mind and happiness I found a book about a man that made millions on television selling things…I thought the book was way too generous in information. At the back of the book the man stated he was a Christian. He said it was all about finding the right kind of fellows. Brightness for everyones eyes!!! Best,

  29. cphytrogen says:

This is all i have to say… May he rest in peace… :^( He seemed like a happy man. (P.S. These past 7 Days have been crazy with Celeb deaths…)

  30. Sad says:

This is a very sad news. As a teenager I can say me and many of my friends grew up watching infomercials about oxi clean and other products that Mr. Mays would pitch to people over television. Billy Mays will be greatly missed and I feel for his family. Rest in Peace.

  31. Ryan says:

I really enjoyed watching Billy Mays throughout his career as a pitchman. He always caught my attention and I will never forget that. I am an avid Discovery channel fan and really enjoyed Billy’s addition to the entire Discovery crew. It was truly a joy to watch him and see how he became so successful. Billy Mays, you will be missed. My thoughts go to his family. It was inspiring to witness his son and father work with him on his show and am sorry for their loss. Thank you for everything you have done Billy.

  32. SHIRLEY says:

Billy, you lived life to the fullest. HEAVEN IS WAITING WITH OPEN

GOD SPEED AND MY PRAYERS ARE WITH YOU AND YOUR LOVED ONES!!

  33. KEVIN FENNESSY says:

It will be a quieter and less clean world without Billy Mays in it. Already the slience is deafening.

  34. Josie says:

Oh my gosh!!! I LOVED Billy Mays and I am very sad now that he is gone. I remember when I was little I used to say that I would meet him before I died. I never thought he would die this soon. He was an icon of infomercials, and if you saw him in a infomercial you would know who he was. Even though sometimes I did not buy the things he advertised, he still made me smile. I will miss him very much. WE LOVE YOU BILLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And we will miss you and remember you always. Thanks for being in our lives. Also the people that were ever close to him are very lucky to know such a wonderful man. I would love to believe that all of his fans are praying for his family, his close friends, and for all the other people that have been touched by him. We will all miss Billy and with our memories, he will always stay alive, at least in all of our hearts. We love you Billy, and I hope that you are having a nice time in heaven. You rock! ;(

  35. Kathy says:

My husband and I are completely stunned, we loved Billy and his Buddy, that makes the show “Pitchmen” we think they are the amazing two people. They made us laugh. We have bought most of the products, that they pitched on TV. Our prayers are with the family. He can never be replaced… We will miss him dearly.

  36. SHIRLEY says:

BIlly you died lovng, loving life. goC to heaven doin what you do best, I hated your infomnercialals, but I bought your products. your big mouth will be remembered thoughout eternity. Been where your family is been now, but remember the real person y\that you are. YOU WILL ALWAYS BE WITH US. GOD SPEED.

  37. Laurie Duerr says:

I absoutely love Billy Mays. I am deeply saddened to hear of his passing. This is too much. I loved the show Pitchman! May he rest in piece

  38. Richard says:

I’ve really got hooked on the Pitchman Series and sort of seen the man behind the Pitch and he was the man! You could really tell he loved his family the new & the old, you could see how proud he was when Billy Jr. made his Directors Debut.

  40. Tina Halloran says:

My sincerest thoughts and prayers go out to the Mays family.
I am deeply saddened myself over the untimely death of Billy.
My DVR was set to record every episode of “Pitchmen”, and the show was quickly becoming a favorite topic among the family.
I am so glad I got to know a little about Billy’s personal side from the show.
I am pleased to say he seemed like a wonderful person, friend, and a proud family man.
May he Rest in Peace. He will be missed.

  41. Lisa says:

I was in total shock when I heard the news that Billy Mays had passed away. Myself and boyfriend are avid watchers of Pitchmen. We love you Billy Mays! I am so sorry that you were taken away so early in life.

To the family if you read this – my sincere condolences – I too, lost my father when he was 50 – very suddenly as well and I know the shock, feeling of emptiness and confusion you are going through. I didn’t know Billy personally but he looked like a true family man full of heart and compassion and good will. My heart goes out to you.

We will miss his enthusiasm, his soaring voice and grin.

Rest in peace Billy. You will not be forgotten.

  42. Perry M says:

I’ve always watched Billy but since the Pitchmen show both he and Sully make you feel good about being inventive, fresh and new. Just the average person can be “wealthy beyond your wildest dreams” as quoted on a recent show. I really connected with Billy were the same age. Both my young son Joseph and I llove the show and we watched it together I hoped it would inspire him to be inventive too he is a builder/inventor. We are saddened and wish the family along with his long time friend Sully our heart felt condolences.

  43. Lee Noga says:

    GOD NEEDED ANOTHER ANGEL.

WE LOVE YOU BILLY, AND OUR HEARTS AND PRAYERS GO OUT TO THE FAMILY.

ANTHONY SULLIVAN, WE ARE COUNTING ON YOU TO KEEP HIS TORCH ALIVE AND BURNING BRIGHT. WE NEED YOU TO COMPLETE HIS PROJECTS.

    R.I. P. BILLY, I FEEL LIKE I LOST A FAMILY MEMBER :(

  44. Greg C says:

I am more shaken by the passing of Billy Mays than I am Michael Jackson. I bought OxiClean because of him. He’s the only TV Pitchman that I trusted. Now all we’re left with is that Sham-Wow guy and that Cathy whoever-she-is selling fleixible cutting boards. Ugh !
    R.I.P. Billy.

  45. June Hagman says:

Billy was always the bright spot on shows I hosted on Home Shopping Network back in 1999. I never knew what he was gonna do, which was half the fun. He had fun with his job, so it never was a job for him. Hard-working, ethical, & talented. And he was a true friend when I was struggling after my departure from HSN; the most caring and thoughtful person that would give you the shirt off his back. There was a time when the rival shopping network knocked his style in host training sessions (”Don’t do this style”) and Billy was classy about that, showing no animosity towards them. He was unapologetic for his enthusiasm and style, and he loved his products. And he loved his customers/fans. We’ll miss you, Billy. God Bless your family at this time of loss.

  46. luis says:

I never watched Billy to buy something, although I beleived everything he said. I watched Billy with my family like watching a regular tv show. When we would here,hi Billy here for…we would rush to the tv to see him in action. He is the greatest salesman ever lived! My familiy will miss him just as much as his family. Great artist! God bless the Mays fam.

  47. G. Ford says:

I am truely saddened by Billy’s death. He was one of a kind and will be missed by all those who listened to his voice. I guess God needed a “pitchman” for Heaven. My heart goes out to his family.

  48. S.Sanders says:

I was shocked to hear this bad news.I had just started watching Pitch Men here recently and Billy Mays always made me laugh.I remember the show and Billy saying he wouldn’t endorse anything he didn’t use or believe in.Its rare to find people that honest now days especially when big money is involved. My heart goes out to the family and may God rest his soul.He WILL be missed.I know there is not another with his voice that could catch your attention.RIP Billy

  49. Zach says:

Wow I never thought i t would happen. He seemed so invincible. RIP

  52. Dave P says:

Of all the recent big name deaths this is the saddest. I have enjoyed watching Billy on Pitchmen and TV will not be the same. My prayers go out to his family & friends.

  53. Margaret says:

I’ll have to admit, his loud commercials really annoyed me. But at the same time, I somehow loved them. And the show “Pitchmen” endeared him to me even more. He had this authencity about him not many on tv do. He was who he was, and would never apologize for it–awesome!
There were many unfortunate deaths this week, but he is the only one I can truly say I feel sad about, to me, his death was by far the most tragic.
I’LL MISS YOU AND THAT VOICE, BILLY MAYS.

  54. fatback gaskins says:

What is there to say? He was the best.

  55. Erin Lassley says:

I’ve often imitated Billy Mays ar work and was the first guy to let everyone know who Billy Mays is. I’d go on about the amazing 3 part oxy-clean system. What I loved most about Billy is he was the first pitchman I would watch that you felt like he wasn’t trying to pull a fast one on you. He knew what he was doing, he knew that you knew, and you knew what he was trying to do. He was a showman salesman whose job was to sell products. And if you let him convince you, you’d buy. That’s what made him so good. He never demeaned the public in his ads and after watching pitchmen, I had newfound respect for him in that he wouldn’t sell anything that he himself wouldn’t use or couldn’t prove as doing as advertised. I’m so sorry for the family for losing this wonderful jovial father, husband, and friend. One could only wish for someone of his nature to come into their lives.

  56. Steve & Rhonda DiMartino says:

Billy Mays was larger than life itself. It seems odd that a complete stranger can touch your life and your heart on a personal level, but Billy did just that for both my husband & myself. He was passionate and honest, with an insatiable lust for life. It was his spirit, not his voice, that commanded your attention…and he will be dearly missed in our household.

We are grieving your untimely loss, Billy. We are grieving for your family. Your legacy will live forever. It’s hard to stop writing. It’s hard to say goodbye to someone whom we never met, but truly adored so much.

Thank you, Billy. Thank you for the smiles, the laughter and the positive spirit you extended every time you appeared on the screen. We genuinely loved you & will miss you forever.

    The DiMartino Family

  57. Karen says:

I am so sorry to hear about Billy. Whatever he was selling, I was buying. He just seemed so believable. If Billy was pitching it, you knew it was a good product. Thank you for sharing him with us for the past few years. He will certainly be missed.

Billy Mays seemed like a truely kind, fun person. Out of all the personalities that have passed away in these past few days, Billy will be the one I miss most. My 12 year old son is devastated over this loss. We DVRed and watched every episode of Pitchmen. We so loved Billy. What a blessing Billy Mays has been to the world. He had a big personality and an even bigger heart. He is a great guy, and will be truly missed.

What a sad weekend for us all, to lose these amazing people, all pioneers in their fields. Oh, but what an addition to Heaven’s team. I am sure there is a rockn’ party going on there right now.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire May’s family and the Pitchmen Crew.
To Billy’s wife and kids – it was so evident that he loved each of you so very much.
